What happens when you let loose 10,000 superballs on a street in San Francisco? Check out this really cool commercial by Sony, and some of the photos by someone who was there at the taping! Apparently they covered drains, put up nets, and had a large staff to clean up - but it still must have been a formidable task to find all those balls! I wonder if they had to account for all of them? Did things in the area get dents in them?

The November issue of Wired has an article about a man’s quest to fine tune the programming on his cochlear implant to hear music as well as he could before he lost his hearing. The Bionic Quest for Boléro is an interesting read that covers some of the technical stuff regarding electrodes, sound ranges and perception of music that I’ve always found intriguing.

Here’s a weird thing - last night in Manhattan a strong ‘yummy’ smell wafted through the streets. It smelled SO good in fact that the authorities got involved and wanted to figure out what it was too! Well, not reallly. But in the end, no one seems to know exactly what it smelled like (Syrup?), or where it came from. So far, there are no casaulties, and no suspects. This does remind me of an article I read about testing the flow of an airborne gas through Manhattan for preventing Bio Terrorism. Related? Do we need to be protected from toxic Maple Syrup gas?

As it turns out, the smart folks at MIT proved the Mythbusters wrong about using the sun to ignite a wooden boat. Sure, MIT might be more geeky, but I don’t see MIT students being allowed to blow a cement truck to smithereens. Also, as it turns out, you can buy a t-shirt at Target that says “I do my own stunts” as Adam has worn before on the show.

[NEW - Buy Mythbusters ‘Reject your Reality’ shirt]
I caught my favorite show Mythbusters on TV the other night - and I noticed Adam wearing a shirt that said “I reject your reality and substitute my own” on it! How cool! I immediately wondered if they were for sale, and just as quickly decided I would just make my own! Here’s a simple design of the Mythbusters inspired tshirt. Later in the show, they mentioned that you can vote on a design for a Mythbusters shirt - but I was disappointed that they don’t include a “I reject your reality …” shirt. Now that I’ve proven myself to be a big geek, I’ll shut up.
