independent - planb has a really cool video that must have surely taken forever to make. Got hand it to the dude for agreeing to do it! Isn’t that lyrical snippet from the Prodigy? Brought to mind the old-skool group ‘Altern-8‘

Adult Swim keeps on using a ‘color key’ on its signature ‘text on black’ info spots when they present their sunday lineup. My problem with their color key is that they reference the tones as Pantone colors. As any graphic designer will tell you, Pantone colors are specific hue formulas that cannot be duplicated in RGB (TV color space) or in CMYK (Print color space) and so of course, their use of Pantone colors is really dumb. Considering they seem to be quite a graphic design-oriented production crew, I am suprised at their ignorance.

Williams Sonoma has a talking thermometer that looks strangely like an iPod! Perhaps it is the iPod’s long lost half-brother’s bastard son, iGobbleGobble, back for Thanksgiving turkey and mash. How many devices will get made now that copy the iPod interface layout? Now if only I could find out what the gadget in that Columbo episode was that looked JUST like an iPod, and played recorded audio! [thanks to Azriel for the tip]

Boing Boing has an article about the WiFi ‘brand’ (I didn’t even know it was a brand - but it sure is a strong one!) and how it was created by a branding firm, and then subsequently tampered with by the opinions of non-branding experts (read, engineers & geeks). They insisted WiFi must stand for something, and the addition of the tag line “The Standard for Wireless Fidelity” was added. Which really doesn’t make much sense. And this is why non-designers/branding people should leave it up to the experts.

This year in Shibuya, Tokyo, home of the trendiest of fashions and the trendiest of youth cultures, Apple opened it’s 4th Japanese Apple Store.
As part of their rather unique advertising campaign, huge iPod nano posters now adorn the platform walls of Toyoko Line Shibuya Station. As you depart the train you’ll be faced with a stream after stream of 1:1 iPod nano cutouts, which you can pull off and take home.

These mTUNE-N Cordless headphones for iPodĀ® nano are a seriously cool idea. As a cord hater, this is a really elegant, original and fascinating solution. I do wonder how you would interact with the nano - do you have to pull it out to change playlists, etc? It looks like you cant get to the nano interface while it’s ‘docked’ in the headphones. This might get annoying if you didnt set up a playlist or if you wanted to choose songs spontaneously. This would work well for a certain market I think. If they have good audio quality, aren’t too heavy and the batteries last long enough, we might be seeing alot of these around. (When they actually put any on sale, that is)
