Brand Enforcement Agency

Posted on November 8th, 2005

Boing Boing has an article about the WiFi 'brand' (I didn't even know it was a brand - but it sure is a strong one!) and how it was created by a branding firm, and then subsequently tampered with by the opinions of non-branding experts (read, engineers & geeks). They insisted WiFi must stand for something, and the addition of the tag line "The Standard for Wireless Fidelity" was added. Which really doesn't make much sense. And this is why non-designers/branding people should leave it up to the experts.
