Unshredded

Me and my better half have been chatting of late about the security of shredding documents. My stance was that it shouldn't be impossible to digitally reassemble shredded docs - though it might be time consuming. Cross-cutting would make things much more difficult. A quick search turned up this New York Times article that makes it clear unshredding is not only feasible, but already offered as a service (for a pretty penny) Now, I would be interested if there is a market for an open-source/freeware unshredder software. One obstacle would be the best method to scan in the strips, or bits. What about those biz card scanners? I guess no matter how you set it up, there's some serious scanning grunt-work in store.

usgs busts the myths

The USGS answers the question Is there earthquake weather? in their Earthquake FAQ. I recently heard about the term from a coworker, and according to her, earthquake weather is when it get really hot, the air is still and there is a weird 'mood' to the weather. Ok, Ok, sounds pretty vague to me! I have yet to experience any quakes here in California, but I'll be sure to keep my feet tuned to the ground on hot, still days. Other indicators of lore are the behaviors of animals. Apparently pets will freak out, birds will get the hell out of the area, etc etc. Not exactly scientific observations, but it makes for a good story.

Mind Boggling = ?

Moggling. How often does one use boggling when not with mind before it? I would argue never. Well, unless you like to play Boggle. But that doesn't count, it just means you're a werd nerd. So I've just been putting the two words together whenever things are beyond comprehension. "That Verizon commercial was mogglingly bad."
