Helvetica in Garamond type T-Shirt

In a classic poster from 1979, Jack Summerford promoted the ‘new’ typeface ITC Garamond through use of the word Helvetica typeset in ITC Garamond. This was a reaction to the overuse of Helvetica at the time, and a humorous stab at the ubiquitous typeface. Ironically, ITC Garamond subsequently gained notoriety and saturated the design world, most notably as the font for Apple Computers (albiet at 80% horiz scale) I have put this 1979 classic onto a t-shirt and can be bought here (Available as a tshirt & messenger bag).

I have to say that it is pretty low rent to take someone else’s idea and put it on a shirt without asking the original author’s permission. You have all these things on your blog as if you are aware or somewhat intellectual about design and yet you just blatantly violate intellectual property law. This is not okay. You should pull this shirt and issue an apology. This is not a tribute but an insult to a past designer

I also have a large bootleg DVD sales network, music distro system and shoplift frequently. I vandalize artwork in museums and graffiti public spaces. Some days I get into fights and leave poor shmucks in the gutter. Not to mention joyriding in cars and then lighting them on fire. Very very low rent.

As a follow-up, all of the aforementioned offending designs have been removed from Cafepress. My apologies to Jack Summerford. I suppose the spirit of American entrepreneurship that I saw going on Cafepress made me act a bit thoughtless and arrogantly. Live and learn. Thanks Bo for the reality check. =)
