I have a confession to make - I’m hooked on Bravo’s Project Runway 2. It’s enjoyable to watch, but that’s as far is I’ll take it… Except for making a few shirts of course! Trust the flamboyant gay dudes like Andrae to say lots of memorable things like “Where the HELL is my chiffon?” (Andrae) and “I want your soul!” (Santino). Check out this tshirt design and more here.

According to crisscross, the miracle fruit tablet can make anything sour taste sweet for up to two hours. I was a little skeptical about a wonderfruit (cue superhero theme) called Miracle Fruit and a miraculin protein, but it looks to be real.
“Tablets made from miracle fruit, which makes sour things taste sweet, went on sale Sunday online. Mitsuharu Shimamura, a 31-year-old horticulturist based in Chita, Aichi Prefecture, established the world’s first technology to make tablets out of the tropical fruit, native to West Africa, which contains a sweet-inducing protein called miraculin.
One pink-colored tablet is made of three miracle fruit berries, Shimamura said. When people eat or lick the fruit’s red berries, any sour thing they eat or drink a minute later tastes sweet for about two hours. This is because the protein miraculin firmly binds to sweet receptor cells in a person’s tongue when sour substances are present. The protein then transmits a false message to the brain, resulting in a strong, sweet taste.”

This footage of a test run of the Japanese Superconducting Maglev Train is really impressive. Seeing the speedometer just keep going up and up and up till it hits 500kph (~311 mph) is almost disturbing! A typical jet airliner goes 560mph. When you factor in xtra time for airline security, plane delays, taxiing, and all that other airport crap, the maglev train would probably end up bein gsignificantly faster. The best part of the clip is seeing the train whiz by on the bridge portion of the Yamanashi test track. What a machine! *drool*

This site features Unusual Aviation Pictures. Above is a shot from the “Spectacular Approaches” page of Simpson Bay, St. Martin - a Dutch and French island. The Juliana International Airport on the teeny island is right next to it’s high-traffic Caribbean beaches and planes make a hair raisingly low approach over the beach. Other interesting shots include landing at 45 degrees (supposedly normal) and whacking your engine on the ground (not normal).
Seeing this photo reminds me of when I was young and my father took me to the end of Heathrow Airport’s runway to watch Concorde take off. The roar of its engines was incredible - and so was the sight of the magnificent plane flying into the distance. The kinda stuff that inspires kids to become pilots (well, not me - I must be weird)

This is a very neat product - the Bottle Cap ‘Tripod’ from Yodobashi lets you use most bottles as a monopod, and is a great way to take a group photo, self portrait, or any impromptu shot with your digital camera. While only suitable for smaller camera, it is still a smart solution to a common dilemma - where to balance your camera when you want to be your own ‘Top Model’
