Random TV moment of the week: “Star Crash“, a b-grade cult sci-fi flick that is equal parts Barbarella & Star Wars, with a hint of Ray Harryhausen mixed in. Featuring such renowned actors as Bond girl Caroline Munro, Baywatch hunk David Hasselhoff and the only real actor, Christopher Plummer. The only reason you should ever consider watching this movie is so that you can get cozy with your bubblegum dispenser Tom Servo and bust out the MST3K wisecracks.

Anime for the evening : Gainax’s Gunbuster. Originally released in 1988, this short 6 episode show is a weird blend of mecha and emotional collapse. The general theme is very played out - the usual gang of high school girls in oddly designed outfits have to go into space to defeat bug-eyed bad guys. The girls spend plenty of time breaking down in tears, and lose just as much time due to the effect of warping through space. While I didn’t find that this Eighties ‘classic’ held up to the test of time, the time-twist at the end was slightly interesting and the action is decent. 6/10

If I ever hit up that fantasyland called Vegas again, I’ll make it a point to check out a Neon Graveyard. Talk about a specialty boneyard!

Actually, moiré patterns are not in style. In fact, if it seems even remotely possible that your clothing for the day might cause some poor sap eye-strain, then please, for the love of all things optical, don’t wear it. And don’t even think about buying anything from St. John!
