I want a Nintendo DS Lite just for the cool MIDI things etc it can do (but I’m sure the games are super fun too!)

You’ve probably seen this already, but I’ve been out of the loop for a bit so it’s news to me.

The kontrol dj midi controller looks like a really sweet piece of kit for anyone into using digital mixing software such as Traktor, but aren’t using the Finalscratch system. It’s super clean, reviews indicate it’s quite robust, and has a nice DJ friendly layout. Check out this user’s video demo. The only downside is it seems to be only available in Europe.

Video for Matthew Sweet’s tune Girlfriend has footage from an old school anime “Space Adventure Cobra.” I just wish they hasn’t felt the need to composite his mug into the video.

A couple months ago, I posted about Yuki, who did a song for the anime Honey and Clover. While digging around on YouTube, I found a couple of her videos - and they are all quite weird. Much inspired by Bjork it seems, but still with her own funky style and originality. Her voice is quite irritating, but somehow it’s okay. Maybe I’m just weird… Here is ‘Joy’ - also check out Melancholista, Fugainaiya, and Sentimental Journey.

A blast from the past (specifically 1979), Yellow Magic Orchestra’s video for its groovin’ track Technopolis is full of blinky lights, shots of Tokyo, and other abstract ’70s goodness! Goodness me it’s fun!

Mungo Enterprises has created the Infinite Horizon, which is a hardware ’synth’ that writes dance music. “The basic concept behind it is that most “classic” dance music is so formulaic it should be easy for a computer to generate.” Well, thats no surprise! Though I hope it doesn’t mean I’ll be out of a job soon, replaced by a robot DJ and robot producer! Though in fact, the box, while generating the chords and melodies, must still be ‘played’ by a human, who determines the greater flow of the piece. Check out the mp3 of the first live set performed with the box - quite interesting! Better than some of the crap I’ve heard people write!

When I’m not goofing around posting to the blog, I spend alot of my time DJing and producing breaks under the pseudonym Spyhunter. I have a new mix set that I’ve put up for you enjoyment, which kicks off a series of bi-weekly mixes that I’ll be publishing as a podcast once I figure out all the technical stuff involved. I’m also going to be giving the Spyhunter site a long overdue overhaul that will include it’s own breaks/music related blog, track reviews, podcast, new original tracks and more! Don’t forget to check out the mix You can now subscribe to the Spyhunter podcast - Mean Streets is the first on there, with some funky, chunky, high energy breaks for your listening pleasure.

SteamSynths. Check out the audio file for some sonic goodness. Chugga chugga!
